October at Shalom Yeladim NYC
Sukkot
This month we will be studying all about the High Holidays of Sukkot and Simchat Torah. We will be discussing the celebration of the end of the harvest season in Eretz Yisrael and remembering how our ancestors dwelled in tents or "Sukkahs" in the dessert. We will be learning about the significance of the Lulav and Etrog and the construction of the Sukkah. We will even, build our own Sukkahs from graham crackers and other treats! Our classes will make Sukkah decorations out of colorful construction paper, tissue paper, pom poms, paint and various materials to bring home for their Sukkah. Shalom Yeladim also, hopes to display some of their decorations in Mount Sinai's very own Sukkah!
Torah and Mitzvot
Our classes will also be learning about beginning the Torah anew each year, with the upcoming Holiday of Simchat Torah. We will be learning a lot of about the different Mitzvot in the Torah and we will be celebrating the Chag with much singing and dancing! Each one of our students will make their own Torah and a Flag to celebrate with on Simchat Torah. We are looking forward to a very exciting month! Over the next few months we will touch upon many topics including, all about me, community, ocean life and more
