September at Shalom Yeladim NYC

Welcome!

Welcome new students! This month we have been exploring our classroom and getting to know all of our new students. We have started off the year with a unit called "Our Hands." Our Threes class has been learning the important role each of our hands have in carrying out many diverse functions, such as fulfilling Mitzvot, helping others, sharing our toys, crossing the street safely with an adult, as well as, enabling us to dress, eat, and wash independently. Learning about "Our Hands" has helped our students understand how to behave in our classroom and treat each other with respect.

Rosh Hashanah

All of our classes have been hard at work preparing for Rosh Hashanah! We have been learning all about the holiday and discussing many of its aspects including, the Shofar, the bikurim, the 7 Species of the Land of Israel, apples and honey, the Rosh Hashanah seder, the round challah, and the birthday of the world which Hashem created. We are preparing many projects to bring home, such as, honey jars, greeting cards, Seder trays, Shofars and much more. Our Pre-K and Three's classes are even hosting their own Rosh Hashanah Seder where they will taste and say the blessings over different foods for a sweet new year. Our Infants are sending home beautiful greeting cards for the New Year with their photo, posing with apples and honey. We are also, excited to welcome Rabbi Ezra Schwartz of Mount Sinai Jewish Center to come and visit all of our classes to blow shofar and speak to us about the upcoming Holiday! We wish all of our Shalom Yeladim families a happy and sweet New Year.
